Education Day
Rather than waiting for students to come to the conference, we take the conference to them. Education Day runs over two days: one for university students, and one for high school learners at Jakob Marengo Tutorial College.
1–2 March 2027Two days, two audiences

A first step into technology
For many students, Education Day is their first experience of writing code, working with hardware, or meeting people who build technology for a living.
Both days combine hands-on workshops with a few selected talks. Sessions are designed for first-time programmers, with separate workshops for educators who want to bring programming into their own classrooms.
What students do
- Python for beginners
- First steps in programming, including drawing with Python's Turtle library.
- Physical computing
- Hands-on workshops with Python and the BBC micro:bit.
- Version control
- Working with git, GitHub and remote development environments.
- Open source
- How open source software is used in schools and beyond.
- For educators
- How to teach the foundations of Python in the classroom.
- Selected talks
- A few talks on each day, including the paths into technology from people working in it.
Two days, two audiences
Each day is shaped around the people in the room, and both include hands-on workshops and a few selected talks.
- University students
- 1 March 2027, venue to be confirmed
- High school learners
- 2 March 2027, Jakob Marengo Tutorial College, Katutura
In 2026, the university day took place at Adaire Technology, and learners from Windhoek, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay joined the high school day. Most learners were funded to attend through the conference, with support from schools and parents.
Education Day 2027
Education Day takes place on 1–2 March 2027. Schools, universities and educators who would like to take part are welcome to get in touch. It is a separate event from the two main conference days.
