Why these grants matter

A conference is where people meet future mentors, colleagues, employers and collaborators, find new ideas and see what technology makes possible.

For someone attending a professional technology conference for the first time, that impact can last well beyond the event. Opportunity Grants exist so that travel, accommodation and registration costs do not stand between people and the chance to learn, connect and contribute.

What a grant can cover

Grants contribute towards reasonable costs of attending PyCon Namibia 2027. The amount depends on your circumstances and the funding available.

  • TravelGetting to and from Windhoek.
  • AccommodationSomewhere to stay during the conference.
  • Registration and related costsYour conference ticket and other approved conference expenses.

Please read before you apply

These terms decide whether a grant will work for you. Please make sure you understand them before applying or making any bookings.

  • Grants are paid as reimbursements

Recipients are responsible for booking and paying for their own flights, accommodation, registration and other approved expenses.

  • Reimbursement takes place after attendance

PyCon Namibia reimburses approved eligible expenses, up to the amount awarded in your grant, once you have attended the conference and submitted the required receipts and proof of payment.

  • Only approved expenses can be reimbursed

Please do not make bookings or purchases assuming they will be covered by the grant. Keep all receipts, invoices, tickets and proof of payment for expenses related to your grant.

  • The grant is based on need

Not on having the most impressive CV. It exists to help people take part in PyCon Namibia when financial circumstances would otherwise prevent them from attending.

  1. 1Receive your grant

We confirm the amount awarded, which expenses are approved and the documents required.

  2. 2Book and pay yourself

You arrange and pay for your own travel, accommodation and other approved costs.

  3. 3Attend the conference

Reimbursement takes place after you have attended.

  4. 4Claim and get reimbursed

Submit your receipts and proof of payment, and we reimburse eligible expenses up to the amount awarded.

Who should apply

Anyone who would benefit from attending, but for whom the cost is a significant barrier. You do not need to be an experienced Python developer.

What matters is your interest in Python and technology, your reason for wanting to attend, and the difference it could make for you.

  • Students taking their first steps into Python and technology
  • Developers looking to grow their skills
  • Educators bringing technology into their classrooms
  • Open source contributors
  • Researchers
  • Community organisers
  • Anyone using Python to solve problems at work or in their community

How applications are assessed

Made possible by our community

Opportunity Grants are funded by our sponsors, partners, volunteers and the wider Python community.

Every grant brings another person into the room: someone who can learn, contribute, build relationships and take what they learn back to their community and organisation.

Don't let cost stop you from taking part.
