Good Ideas

  • Submit your proposal early so the program committee can provide feedback.
  • Answer basic questions:
    • Who is the intended audience for your talk?
    • What will attendees learn or gain from your talk?
  • Provide an outline of your talk with estimated time for each point.
  • If requesting a 45-minute slot, explain how you would adapt to 30 minutes.
  • Include 5–10 minutes for discussion/Q&A within your slot.
  • Ensure your talk is relevant to a broad audience.
  • Include links to source code, articles, or videos that provide context.
  • Mention if you’ve given similar talks before, including links to slides or videos.

Bad Ideas

  • Avoid infomercials; focus on learning and sharing knowledge.
  • Don’t propose incomplete code or projects ("conference-driven development").
  • Avoid “state of our project” talks unless highly relevant to attendees.
  • Don’t assume the committee knows you personally from past talks.
  • Submit detailed proposals; first-round reviews are blind to the speaker’s name.
